Using the PAX D210

The PAX D210 is a wireless EMV Chip Card reader that works with desktop and mobile devices. The videos below show you how to set up and use the PAX D210 with Smartwerks. For additional assistance, please contact RUPractical at 1-800-555-5555.

Setup

  1. Find the serial number on the back of the D210.
  2. In Smartwerks, access System Settings under the System menu.
  3. Click the Sales icon.
  4. In the ‘Pax terminal serial number’ field, enter the serial number from the D210 device. This is how Smartwerks is able to communicate with the reader.
  5. In the ‘Pax Merchant ID’ field, enter the Merchant ID from the sticker on the D210.
  6. If you are using Smartwerks Mobile, you also need enter the D210 serial number there. On the Home menu of the Smartwerks Mobile, click Settings.
  7. Enter the device’s serial number in the ‘Terminal Serial Number’ field.
  8. Plug in the D210.
    NOTE: The device can run on battery power, but for this setup process, we recommend plugging the power cord into the side of the device.
  9. Turn on the device by pressing and holding the Cancel button.
  10. Access the main menu by clicking the Menu button located directly under the screen.
  11. Enter the password, which is always today’s date in MM/DD/YYYY format. When finished, click the green checkmark on the screen.
  12. On the Main Menu, press the down arrow to move to the second set of options.
    IMPORTANT: There are several menu options available on the reader. However, to avoid processing issues, you should only use the ones discussed in the Smartwerks tutorials.
  13. Press the Communication button on the screen.
  14. On the Comm. Options menu, press the down arrow on the reader to move to the second set of options.
  15. Press WiFi Parameters.
  16. Available wireless networks now appear. Press the button on the screen for the network you want to connect to. If the network requires a password, you will be prompted to enter one.
    IMPORTANT: You must connect to the same wireless network that Smartwerks is using or the D210 will not work.
  17. The device tries to connect to the network. When the connection is successful, the Wifi icon turns blue.
  18. You are now ready to start processing EMV chip cards.

Processing a Sale

  1. On the Smartwerks Sales Order screen, enter the items being sold as you normally would.
  2. Click Checkout.
  3. On the Checkout window, click the CC (Credit Card) button.
  4. Verify the amount being paid with a credit card and click Apply.
  5. Smartwerks instructs you to insert the card. Take the chip card and insert it into the D210 reader, chip end first. Do not remove the card until the device tells you to.
  6. Once authorization is approved or denied, the corresponding message appears on the screen.
  7. The reader then instructs you to remove the card. Take the card out of the D210.
  8. At this point the card has been approved, but the transaction is not complete until you click Ok. If you need to void the transaction, click Cancel. To continue with the sale, click the OK button.
  9. Smartwerks completes the post authorization steps. Once this process is finished, the transaction is complete. A confirmation message also displays on the reader.
  10. Detailed credit card information is included on the receipt.

Processing a Mobile Sale

  1. On the Smartwerks Mobile screen, enter the items being sold as you normally would.
  2. Then click Take With or Delivery.
  3. On the Checkout screen, click the Credit Card button.
  4. Smartwerks instructs you to insert the card. Take the chip card and insert it into the D210 reader, chip end first. Do not remove the card until the device tells you to.
  5. Once authorization is approved or denied, the corresponding message appears on the screen.
  6. The reader then instructs you to remove the card. Take the card out of the D210.
  7. At this point the card has been approved, but the transaction is not complete until you click Ok. If you need to void the transaction, click Cancel. To continue with the sale, click the OK button.
  8. Smartwerks completes the post authorization steps. Once this process is finished, the transaction is complete. A confirmation message also displays on the reader.
  9. Detailed credit card information is included on the receipt.

Closing a Batch

At the end of each day or employee shift, you need to complete a Batch Close to send transactions to the bank for settlement. You will not receive payment for the transactions until this step is completed.

  1. Access the main menu by clicking the Menu button located directly under the screen.
  2. On the Main Menu, press the Hosts Settings button.
  3. Enter the password, which is always today’s date in MM/DD/YYYY format.
  4. The Hosts Settings menu appears. Press the down arrow on the reader to move to the second set of menu options.
  5. Press Batch Close.
  6. Once transactions have been successfully sent to the bank for settlement, ‘BATCH CLOSED’ appears on the screen.
